Hospital comes clean over filthy fountain in A&E
WEXFORD General Hospital has held its hands up over the state of a public drinking water fountain at its Accident and Emergency department.
Keith Holden, from St. Martin's Park in Ballycullane, said he was at the A and E with his son last Wednesday when he found the water dispenser 'to be in a disgusting state'.
'Where is the hygiene here?' asked Mr. Holden, who took a picture of the offending object.
'It's pretty disgusting. I couldn't believe it when I saw it,' he said. 'It was dirty and layered with dust.'
Hospital General Manager Lily Byrnes said Mr. Holden was right and since being contacted by this newspaper the water dispenser had been cleaned.
'It was an omission by the housekeeping staff,' she said.
'We do have a structure for cleaning it, but unfortunately the system failed. We will be addressing it,' she said.
