A MAJOR new business is planning to open at the Meadows and Byrne Lifestyle Centre on the outskirts of Wexford town.
Michael Murphy Furniture, which already has stores in Newbridge and New Ross, will occupy a 12,500 square feet floor space at the development on the Rosslare Road roundabout.
The company will become the first new business to open at the centre since its anchor tenants, Meadows and Byrne, Kelly's Café and kitchen designer Michael Farrell moved in several months ago.
General Manager Joe Murphy said the new store, which he anticipates will open at the beginning of September, will create 15 jobs.
'We can see a huge improvment in business and would like to bring the Michael Murphy brand to Wexford,' he said.
Mr. Murphy said the New Ross store currently attracts a lot of customers from Wexford.
'We saw a gap in the market and thought we could satisfy that,' he said, adding that the new Wexford store would stock a new collection due to come to the market later in the year.
Michael Murphy Furniture opened its first New Ross store store on the Quay in 1976 and re-located to the New Ross Retail Park in 2007.
The company currently employs around 85 people between its two operations.
