First sod turned on new Barntown national school

The first sod has been turned on the site of Barntown's new national school, which is expected to be completed in a year's time.
Bishop of Ferns Dr. Denis Brennan attended the sod-turning ceremony along with pupils, staff , politicians and representatives from the building firm Mythens.
Board of Management chairman Fr. John Carroll said the event marked the culmination of many years of effort and planning.
'It is an historic moment in the life of our parish community,' he said.
Fr. Carroll asked for co-operation in the year ahead as the school strives to operate on a smaller site.
'We are mindful of the requirements of safety and the mammoth task facing our construction workers,' he said.
'I have do doubt we will meet the challenge,' he added.
