Extra money for fire service

Members of New Ross Fire Brigade Crew attending the fire near Newbawn last Tuesday

Increased demand has prompted Wexford County Council to give the fire service an increased budget for 2013.

Councillors were told that the number of emergency calls fielded by the brigade in 2013 rose 20 per cent, compared with the previous year. The service operates five stations - Bunclody, Enniscorthy, Gorey, New Ross and Wexford.

Officials have warned that the council will pursue those who owe money for call-outs - minimum bill €350.
