Discount store 'Dealz' on its way to Wexford
DISCOUNT store Dealz is due to open its first Wexford town shop 'soon'.
The company, which already has a store in Gorey, says on its website that its new premises in South Main Street will begin trading soon. Earlier, the website had said the store would open on August 28.
There were no details available about how many jobs will be created when the store opens next month and speaking through their PR company, Dealz said it did not wish to divulge the information yet.
Meanwhile, Aldi is due to open its third store in the town in September. While Aldi has yet to make an official comment on the opening on the opening of the store, a sign installed at the site on the Newtown Road, opposite Wexford Racecourse, says it will open on September 11.
At the same time, plans by discount giant TK Maxx to open its first store in Wexford are still in limbo following a single objection from town businessman Nigel Hamilton.
An Bord Pleanala is due to rule on his objection early in September, a month after TK Maxx had planned to open at the Stonebridge development on Paul Quay.
The discount giant had already offered jobs to more than 40 people who had been due to take up employment at the new store over the next few weeks.
In his objection, Mr Hamilton said shops were closing on the main street because of a lack of parking, a lack of money and a lack of customers. He claimed TK Maxx would drive even more customers from the main street which he believed is where it should be situated.
