THE Over the Water Vintage club are organising a vintage tractor and car run on Sunday, October 13 starting out at 12.30 p.m. from Ballymurn village. This is a fundraiser for medical treatment at Great Ormonde street childrens hospital for baby John Murphy from Ballymurn and for young Sandra Ennis-Kavanagh, also from Ballymurn who will receive treatment at Basingstroke and North Hampshire hospital. Your generous support for both would be most appreciated.

LADIES FOOTBALL

Crossabeg/Ballymurn Ladies football club would like to wish the very best of luck to the Wexford ladies in the All -Ireland final on Sunday next, where 3 club players will be on the panel, Kim Maloney, Tara Maloney and Katie Redmond.

YOUTH CLUB

To faciliate parents, Crossabeg Youth club are re-convening their annual general meeting combined with membership regisatration night for Tuesday, October 1 from 8- 10 p.m. in Crossabeg community centre. Parents and aspiring members in the area are most welcome.

The committee would like to invite new members to join and for previous members to renew, but you must be accompanied by an adult. Please do your best to keep this night free as your children can have a wonderful opportunity to socialise in a safe, fun environment. Members will have access to a range of facilities such as art & craft classes, table tennis, basketball, indoor football, air hockey, darts, table football, make-up classes, well supervised discos and organised outings.

Any parent who would like to give just two hours of their time a month on the committee or to help out in any way should inform a leader on the night or contact the Youth Club mobile number 087-6641602. Check out the website at www.crossabegyc.com for photographs and information.

TEXT ALERT

The Text Alert committee in Crossabeg met on Monday of last week and report that good progress is being made to get the system up and running. In the coming weeks a circular willl be issued to all houses in the parish with contact details and means of signing up for same.

A date for the Diary

A Coffee morning in aid of the local 55+club active retirement group will be held in Kyle Forge on Saturday, November 17. Further details at a later stage.

CONDOLENCES

We extend our condolences to Carol and Pat Hore and family, Killowen, and to Declan and Veronica Hore, Newcastle, on the death of Anna Kennedy, Ballinard, Oulart, whose funeral took place to Oulart cemetery after Requiem Mass on Thursday morning last. R.I.P.

SCHOOL NEWS

The beginning of year Mass will take place on Wednesday, September 25 at 9.45 a.m. Parents and family members are welcome to attend. Confirmation will take place in the parish on March 28, 2014. The Parents Association will hold their annual general meeting on Monday, October 7 at 8 p.m. in the school. The election for Parents representative on the Board of Management will take place at this meeting

IRISH DANCE CLASSES

Irish dance classes have commenced in Crossabeg national school and take place on Thursday evenings from 3.10 p.m until 4.10 p.m. The cost is €6 per class with a reduction if paid termly in advance. For further details please contact James Jordan on 086-8486989.

OULART

BEREAVEMENT

The heartfelt sympathy of the community is extended to the family of the late Mrs. Anna Kennedy, (nee O'Neill) Ballinerode, Oulart who passed to her eternal reward last week and was buried in Oulart on Thursday 19th September. She is mourned by her son Vincent, daughters Brenda, Carol and Angela, grand-children, other relatives, life-long friends and supportive neighbours. Her husband Bernard and son Jimmy pre-deceased her. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.

COMMUNITY ALERT

A speaker from the Community Alert organisation will attend in Oulart Community Centre on Thursday 26th September, at 8pm to inform the local community of the benefits of the "Text Alert" system and other matters related to community security issues. All members of the community are invited to attend, including representatives of local organisations. Be there-show that you care!

CHARITY AUCTION

The Charity Auction in aid of Oulart Senior Citizens has been re-arranged for Sunday 29th September, beginning at 2pm in Oulart Community Centre.

NOVENA

The annual Novena to St. Therese will commence on Monday 23rd September at 7.30pm in St. Mochuas's Church, Oulart and will continue each evening, at the same time and conclude on 1st October.

VETERAN ATHLETE

Once again, heartiest congratulations are extended to Terry O'Keeffe on his recent success in Tullamore, where he won a silver medal. Terry's dedication to his sport and his continuing success is an example to all and confirmation that sport is for life. Long may he continue to enjoy his involvement in athletics.

CIRCLE OF FRIENDS

A demonstration on Needlework and Craft work will be held in Kilmuckridge KMH on Tuesday 24th September, beginning at 8pm. Admission is €3. All are welcome.

TIDY TOWNS

Oulart Tidy Towns committee held their September meeting recently. Collectors were appointed to take up the annual Church Gate collection. 300 euro was contributed and the committee would like to thank everyone who gave so generously.

Conditions in the village were reviewed and it was generally agreed that most residents were co-operating with the ongoing efforts to keep the area litter free.

There are still some problems with the recycling bins attracting rubbish but the Co. Council is now dealing with that and prosecutions may follow. The overall appearance of the village, especially the floral displays and hanging baskets, evoked great praise from residents and visitors alike.

A few black spots were earmarked for attention next year and it is hoped to enter the village in the national Tidy Towns competition in 2014.

THE BALLAGH YOUTH CLUB

Youth Club activities continue in the Ballagh Community Centre on Fridays from 8pm-10.30pm. The members are travelling to a Disco on 4th October. New members are welcome, from First Years and upwards. The registration fee for the year is €10. Contact 087-0611818 with any queries. Leaders on duty for Friday night 27th September are Nina Kehoe, Sarah Gallagher, Lorraine Howlin and Angela Brennan.

ACTIVE RETIRED

Oulart & District Active Retired Group have organised a meeting of all members to be held in Oulart Community Centre on Thursday 26th September at 2pm.This meeting will discuss upcoming events, outings etc and it is important that all members have an input into the discussions and decisions.

ART CLASSES

CAMOGIE DATES

U16 Premier Camogie Semi-Final, Oulart-The Ballagh V Rathnure will be played on 29th of Sept. Time and venue to be decided. Senior Camogie Final is scheduled for 12th of October. Details re time and venue, when available, will be posted in local businesses and in these notes.

PILATES CLASSES

New Pilates classes will be launched in Castlebridge from October 7. They will take place at the Porterhouse (upstairs) on Monday mornings from 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Booking is essential. Contact Debbie Murphy on 086-8122535.

APPRECIATION

Screen Parents Association would like tothank most sincerely all who helped with serving refreshments at the Screen Patron field day. All monies raised were donated to the parish fund. Special thanks to Caroline and Freddie Kinsella and all who baked for the coffee morning in Freddies where all proceeds were given to the Screen hall renovation project. The Parents Association annual general meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 2 at 8 p.m in the school hall. Parents are asked to attend and give their support.

STRICTLY CLUB DANCING

The excitement is building up in the parish as the Shelmalier Strictly club dancing competiton for 2013 is fast approaching. This years competition promises to be as good if not better than last year. The twelve couple participating are determined to outperform their predecessors and are practicing on a weekly basis and large numbers of observers are seen at practise sessions.

Everyone is encouraged to cast their votes for their favourite couple on the special voting card which are available from club members or at local business premises. Each euro contributed is equal to one vote for your chosen couple. It is also expected that there will be a strong demand for tickets to attend the competition final, so it is recommended that you order your tickets as early as possible.

Tickets cost €15 each and can be obtained for club members or Peggy Kelly on 087-9640712. Last years special act by Colm and his merry men is also returning. No matter who wins, the night promises to be a great occasion for all in Hollymount as the money raised will be used to develop the facilities to the benefit of all who use them.

GAA CLUB NEWS

The Shels juvenile team play the first of their double county final appearances when the footballers play Craanford on Thursday next, September 26 at 7.45 p.m. in St. Patricks Park. Your support would be appreciated.

Well done to the Shels U6 boys who had an enjoyable match against St. Martins in Piercestown on Saturday last when over 20 boys lined out for the Shels. The mentors divided the panel into two teams and were delighted to see the boys play so well in both matches. Many thanks to St. Martins for hosting the event.

LOTTO

The numbers drawn in the Curracloe United Lotto draw for September 22 were 1 ,7, 17, 25. There was no jackpot winner but six match 3 winners who won €25 each, Emma Hore Meagher, Ballina; John Howlin, Ballinablake; PJ Usher, Screen; Andrew Furlong, Curracloe; Carl Ferrick, Curracloe; and Kak Redmond, Ballyruan, Screen. Next weeks jackpot is €15,750.

CAMOGIE NEWS

St. Ibars/Shelmaliers U14 team won the League final replay against Craanford 5-5 to 3-2 making it three titles won this year by the club,Feile winners, county champions and now the under 14 league. What an achievement for the girls and their mentors. Thanks to Mentors Mick Lanigan, John Harding and Mary O'Leary.

The senior team qualify for the campionship final after a great 2-8 to 2-6 win over Rathnure. They now take on Oulart/The Ballagh in the final on October 12.

The U12 team enjoyed the Festival held in Wexford Park on Saturday where they drew with St Anne's 1-0 each. Well done to the team and mentors.

The U16 team have advanced to the semi-final which is down for Saturday, September 28. Check out facebook and www.shelmaliers.ie . The Oylegate/Glenbrien game didn't go ahead after last week as planned and the Shels received a walkover.

Hard luck to Jessie Harding, Zoe O'Leary, Larah Campbell and Sarah Harding-Kenny who were on the Wexford squad at the All-Ireland Under 14 Blitz in Dublin recently, losing to eventual winners Cork by 2-4 to nil and Clare by 3-3 to 2-3 after a 1-5 to 1-4 win over Dublin.

LADIES FOOTBALL

Best of luck to the Shelmalier senior team who will compete in the All-Ireland 7s in Naomh Mearnóg and St.Sylvester's club and to the U14 team who travel to Kilmacud Crokes to take part in the All-Ireland seven's, with both competing on Saturday next, September 28. The club sends their good wishes to all involved with Wexford LGF in the TG4 Junior All-Ireland final against Offaly in Croke Park on Sunday next.

Leona Tector, Maeve Quill, Clara Donnelly, Kellie Kearney (captain) Roisin Murphy, Ciara Corrigan and Geraldine Doolan are part of the panel. There are still a small few seats left on the bus.
