St Fintans GAA lotto jackpot hits €20k

THE St Fintans GAA lotto now stands at €20,000 and tickets can be purchased in the local shops and from club members at a cost of €1.50.

There is also a match three prize of €300 up for grabs each week and Sandra Hynes shared in this prize with the following numbers drawn 13,16,20,25. Many thanks for your continued support.

STRICTLY CLUB DANCING

The GAA clubs of St. Fintans, Kilmore and St. Martins will contest the grand final of strictly club dancing which will be held in whites hotel Wexford on February 1 st at 8 pm. A limited number of tickets are available from the St. Fintans club. Why not come along and support our local dancers and enjoy a fun night.

CELEBRATION NIGHT

The St Fintans GAA club will hold a special celebration night in the Talbot Hotel Wexford on Saturday March 1st. Tickets are €35 which will entitle you to a four course meal, band, DJ, late bar and everything you need for a great night. We welcome players, family ,friends and supporters.

CAMOGIE

All young ladies interested in playing camogie from u-6 upwards with St Marys camogie club please contact Nicky Sinnott on 087 2918020. Why not become the next star of Wexford camogie and have fun doing so.

MAYGLASS NS

An open enrolement meeting will be held in Mayglass N.S on Thursday Feburary 13th at 7.30pm. The parents of the children planning to attend the school in September are invited to attend.

IN HOSPITAL

Get well wishes are sent to Jim Kelly, Killinick who is currently a patient in a Dublin hospital. He is wished a speedy recovery to full fitness and health by his family and friends.

MASS TIMES

Ballymore Church; Wednesday morning mass at 9.40am followed by adoration from 10am-11am. Adoration also takes place from 7pm-8pm each Wednesday evening. Mass on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7.30pm. Sunday morning mass at 10.30am. Mayglass church; Monday and Friday morning mass at 9.30am and Saturday evening mass at 7.30pm.

PRESENTATION NIGHT

St. Fintan's Ladies Football Club will hold a presentation night for all the girls underage teams who participated in the 2013 football season . It will be held in Danby Lodge on Friday February 7th from 7-9pm. You're support on the night would be much appreciated. Please note that we will also be collecting registrations on the night for the year ahead. €30 for u10 and €40 for u12 - u18's, part payment will also be accepted.

GIRLS FOOTBALL TRAINING

Pat Rossiter (085 1472653) , Antoinette Cullen(087 9853094) and Nicky Sinnott will be resuming football training for the u12, u14 & u16 girls on Wednesday Feburary 12th in St Marys GAA grounds Tagoat between 6pm-7pm,as this will be indoor training so please bring your runners.

We hope that all the girls that played last year will return and we also invite all newcomers to come and give it a go. All parents, please be aware that from now on it will be compulsory for all underage girls to wear a gum-shield when playing football. This is for training as well as matches. So please get your daughter a gum-shield before returning to training.

FRANK JOINS FG TICKET

Congratulations to Frank Staples who (Sunday night) was nominated to contest the local elections in May for Fine Gael. Frank has been a member of the party for many years and is well respected both locally and nationally. Well done Frank.

BANNOW/ BALLYMITTY

BALLYMITTY HALL

Our Hall Committee have put together an audit to assess the needs of the community in relation to a how hall/community centre being built. They have been sent to families in the school and a member of the Hall Committee will distribute and collect the rest to the households in our community over the next two weeks. We would love to hear your opinions. The audit is being done as part of the process of applying or a grant to help finance the building of a new hall/community centre.

From Monday January 27 there will be tea/ and a bun or two served at the bingo each Monday night.

There is a list of the hall committee members at the back of the church, if you want to see what is happening in the hall on different nights there is a list of activities, also if you would like to set up a club/activity contact Audrey McCarthy on 087/2905794 after 5 p.m.

The Sacrament of First Communion for Danescastle School will be celebrated on Saturday 24th May at 11am in Carrig church.

BANNOW PARENTS COUNCIL

The Bannow parent's council would like to thank everyone for their support throughout the year and everyone who sponsored our calendar for 2014 which is available in local shops at 8 euro. We have our draw the last Tuesday of every month. Tickets are €2 each or 3 for €5. If you wish to receive monthly tickets please contact any of the committee. Next meeting 28th January.

GAA NOTES

Well done and Congrats goes out to Mosie White Wellington Bridge who was this years recipient of the Seana Gheal Awards. Mosie played for the Club from 1956,the club was known as Corach Ramblers then , until 1980 in which he played his last game in the Junior B football New Ross District Final. Hope you and your Family enjoyed the night.

The Junior Ladies Footballers will start back training on Friday 7th Feb. All enquires to Stevie Power 086-2309653.

It is great to see so many students representing their club through their schools. Keep up the good work people.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY

A historical talk will be given on the GAA and the Land league by local historian Tom McDonald in early February (date to be finalised).

Bannow Historical Society has obtained permission to proceed with the repair work to the east window of Bannow church. Work will commence in March/April, weather permitting.

The society's new website is up and running. Please note that it is now www.bannowhistory.ie and not www.bannowhistory.com which was the old web address and is now obsolete.

ARA NEWS

The Bannow and Ballymitty Active Retirement Association will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday 4th February in Carrig Community Centre at 2p.m. New members are always welcome to attend.In the past month members went on scenic walks, went to the New Ross pantomimem and had dinner in New Rossm held a table quiz in Breen's bar and went to the cinema.

The chairman has announced that the association has received grants from the National Lottery and from Go for Life to purchase sports games for the members to keep their body and mind in an active state.

COFFEE MORNING

The monthly Coffee Morning will be held in the Community Hall, this Thursday, 30th January from 10.30a.m. to 12 noon. All are welcome - do come along for cuppa and chat.

O.L.I. G.A.A CLUB

The G.A.A. National Club Draw takes place on Monday, 17th March at Pairc an Chrocaigh. Prizes include Trip to 2014 International Rules Series in Australia: 2 Corporate Box concert tickets with pre-concert hospitality in Croke Park in 2014: Travel Voucher to the value of €1,500: All Ireland Football Final Package 2014: All Ireland Hurling Final Package 2014: Trip to New York for St. Patrick's Day 2015; Shopping voucher to the value of €1,000.

Tickets €10 each and are on sale at the moment and can be purchased from any club member and all funds raised will be retained by Our Lady's Island G.A;A Club.

SENIORS COMMITTEE

Our Lady's Island/Tacumshane Senior citizens committee will hold their Annual General Meeting on Thursday, 13th February in O.L.I. Community Hall at 8p.m. All are welcome to come along.

WACKY RACES NIGHT

KRH Tops/Community Group Present "Wacky Races" Night at Hotel Rosslare this Saturday 1st February at 8.00pm. RNLI AGM

The Rosslare Harbour, Fundraising Branch had their AGM on Monday 20th January and the following were elected for the coming year, Chairman - Leo Coy, Secretary - Paula Saunders, Asst Secretary - Moira Hope, Treasurer - Pat Busher, Asst Treasurer - Bernie Roche, Pro - Bernie Roche, Souvenir Secretary - Leo Coy, Committee - Ron O'Rourke, Martina O'Connor, Ronnie Sinnott, Shane Kavanagh, Breda Haughton, Bernie Mullen & Mike Kavanagh.

SYMPATHY

The community extends sympathy to the Hayes family (Churchtown) on the sad passing of Betty. Her funeral mass took place in St Ruanes Church, followed by burial in St Aidan's Cemetary. She is sadly missed by her son John, daughter-in-law Brid, grand-daughter Maeve, sisters Statia, Nellie and Gertie, relatives and friends.

Sympathy is also extended to the family of the late Ita Sinnott (Ballywitch, Kilrane) who passed away at Cherrygrove Nursing Home recently. After funeral mass she was laod to rest in St Aidan's Cemetary. Sympathy to her brother Thomas, nephew, relatives and friends.

ICA GUILD

The January meeting was held on Wednesday 15th. President Betty Halligan presided. The minutes were dealt with. Some members are off to the Aviva Stadium (Lansdowne Road) on Friday 7th February for the launching of Daffodil Day. Eileen Morris is stepping down as the chief organiser of Daffodil Day in the area, which she has been doing faithfully since 1988. Betty Halligan is taking over the role.

A Quiz Night is being organised in Culleton's for February, full details to follow later. Competition winner was Betty Halligan. Competition next month is the nicest keyring.

ST. MARY'S GAA NEWS

Lotto Results for 13th January: numbers drawn 3-6-12-19 bonus 37, Match 3 Winner Paul Murphy. Numbers drawn on 20th January were 5-12-20-28 bonus 39, Match 3 Winners: Margaret Murphy, Jimmy Cousins, Helen McDougal, D Houston & Paddy Kinsella.

Congratulations is extended from the Club to Fran Sheil and Timmy O'Connor on receiving their Seana Ghael awards this week. It is a fitting tribute to both for the commitment and dedication they have given to their club over the years both on and off the field. Comhghairdeas!

The BOM of Scoil Mhuire Rosslare will run a 300 Club for 2014 to raise money towards the new school extension. Those who join will be required to pay €5 each month for the year.
