THE 24th journal of the Wexford Historical Society was launched by Helen Skrine at the Talbot Hotel at the weekend, following the society's annual Christmas lunch.
Twelve very interesting articles by eminent historians including Bernard Browne, Brian Coleman, Patrick Comerford, Edward Culleton, Eamon Doyle, David Ian Hamilton, Aidan Harte, Ed. J. Law, Tom McDonald Catherine McLoughlin, Emmet Stafford, Tom Pierce and William Sweetman appear in this edition for 2013-2014.
Subjects such as St. Catherine; murder during the War of Independence, The Lords and Ladies of Wexford; Mills of Wexford Town and The Wexford Gas Consumer's Company are all covered in great detail, while Bernard Browne writes about a County Wexford Mammalogist.
The society has been publishing a journal over a period of years since 1968 when the first edition was edited by Dr. Edward Culleton, one of the contributors to this latest publication.
This latest edition has been edited by historian Celestine Murphy who has served in this capacity for many Wexford publications.
The journal will be on sale at all local book shops and for all budding historians it gives a rare insight into Wexford's storied past.
