KENT STAINLESS apprentice David Berney took top honours in a national skills competition run by the Dublin Institute of Technology.
The event took place at the Gresham Hotel and the awards covered ten different skill disciplines ranging from Aircraft Maintenance to Sheet Metal Work.
Kent Stainless's interest this year concerned the skill set of Polymechanic Automation and David who returned again to represent Kent in the final which took place over the preceding four days. The competition was very stiff, with other apprentices representing multinational companies.
David emerged victorious over David Champ from Lufthansa Tecnik by a winning margin of two points.
After four days of work this narrow margin showed how tough the competition was.
Kent said it was proud to see David emerge as the winner over companies with a lot more resources.
David joins a long list of very skilled and disciplined apprentices who have passed through Kents over the years. and who havegone on to become excellent craftsmen.
He follows in the footsteps of Ken Clooney and Eamonn Maloney as past champions themselves in the Sheet Metal Work trade.
