THE Wexford County Archive has its physical base at the Ardcavan business park beside the Wexford to Castlebridge Road. Many items such as estate surveys, old solicitor's files, school rolls and maritime records may be examined there by appointment.
Archivist Gráinne Doran is always happy to accept donations of relevant papers which may be added to her treasure trove. She has also presided over the process of making some documents available on line, so that members of the general may can trawl through them at leisure.
So far, the main undertaking has been the scanning and posting on the internet of the county council minutes from 1899 to 1997. And the material has been presented in such a way that it is possible to search much of the local authority record by computer for references to particular persons or places.
Thanks to such initiatives, the past is not such a very distant place at all.
