'Our PARISH 2013' was launched by the parish of Bannow and Ballymitty Parish on the coat tails of the launch of the Phil Murphy last week.

Launched at the parish hall by Bernard Browne and edited by Tom Hennessy, the 88-page journal turns back the clock on a village and area steeped in history.

But it also includes writings from some contemporary young authors, including children from Ballymitty and Danescastle national schools.

First in the creative writing competition were articles by Katie O'Meara on a trip of a lifetime and Callie Bennett on an ancient chamber.

There is an article on missionary priest Fr. Sean Cullen and pictures from yesteryear to see if the people in them are still recognisable.

A report entitled 'Deep Shadows and Long Echoes' details a murder that took place in the area in the 1920s.

'Our Parish 2013' is available for €6 at any local shop and is well worth the modest outlay.
