CONSTRUCTION work got under way this week on a major re-development project at Sligo Racecourse.
This scheme scheme will involve the demolition of the present entrance and Tote as well as the the old part of the grandstand.
This will be replaced by a new entrance, Tote Hall and a modern grandstand.
This work is being carried out by Kilcawley Construction.
Sligo Races manager, Brian Kennedy, said that in a time of recession it was great to be able to carry out this work. It will mean a lot to the local economy with Kilcawleys being a well-known Sligo Construction Company providing employment and business to the area.
When this development work is complete Sligo Racecourse will be one of the most modern racecourses in the country.
