THE SLIGO Races two-day annual fixture takes place on Wednesday next, August 8th, and Thursday, August 9th. Thursday is Ladies Day, with Littlewoods Ireland the sponsor of the Best Dressed Lady Competition.
The first race on Wednesday is at 5.40p.m. It is a seven race all flat programme with the feature the Connacht Oaks Fillies Handicap of €30,000 sponsored by the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund.
Other sponsored races on the evening are The Foley's Bar and Off Licence Handicap, sponsored by Martin and Teresa Foley, Castle Street; The Sligo Park Hotel Handicap and the E.B.F. Two-Year Maiden, sponsored by the European Breeders Fund. Thursday is a seven race all National Hunt card, with the first race off at 5.35p.m. There are four sponsored races with the feature being The Guinness Sligo Handicap of €20,000 over two-and-a-half miles.
Other sponsored races are The Martin Reilly BMW Dealer Novice Hurdle, sponsored by Martin Reilly BMW, Carraroe; The Martinstown Opportunity Maiden Hurdle sponsored by Martinstown Stud, Limerick and The Strandhill Lodge and Suites Maiden Hurdle.
The fabulous Best Dressed Ladies prize on offer is a €2,000 shopping spree with Littlewoods Ireland and nine finalists will receive a €100 Littlewoods Ireland voucher. The celebrity fashion judge is Sile Seoige.
Music by Man in Black before and after racing each evening.
Gates open each day at 3. 00p.m., with restaurant and bars also open each day from 3.00p.m.
Admission prices are €15 for adults, €10 for OAP's and students. All children are free. Group rates also available. There is a special two-day offer of €25 to cover admission and race card each day. Book online or purchase before next Tuesday. There is also a free supervised car park in the centre of the track.
"While a lot of focus on this two-day August fixture will be on style and glamour, there is also some great racing over the two evenings," said Racecourse Manager, Brian Kennedy.
