SHEILA GAVIGAN, a native of Doomore, Tubbercurry, was recently awarded a 'Team London Award' by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.
Sheila has been living and working in London for over 20 years and has been running as landlady ' The Cock Tavern' in Islington, North London for the last 19 years.
She is very involved in helping the Irish Community in her local area, voluntary work that has gone way beyond the call of normal duty.
Her contribution to her community was acknowledged by a letter and certificate from the Mayor with the citation "For your outstanding contribution to improving London and the quality of life for Londoners".
Sheila is daughter of Mary Kate and the late Tom Gavigan, of Doomore and sister of Fr. Joseph, Martin, Ann, Geraldine and Claire.
She was educated at St. Michael's Primary School, Cloonacool and Benada Abbey Secondary School.
Prior to emigrating to London, she worked in Killoran's Bar & Restaurant, Tubbercurry, and the Castle Hotel, Ballymote.
