FORMER COUNTY Board Chairman, Joe Queenan, is to contest the election for Chairman at this year's annual GAA Convention.
Mr. Queenan, who was Chairman of the Board for nine years from 1996 to 2004, has been nominated for the positon of Chairman for 2013 and will challenge outgoing Chairman, Cyil Feehily, at Convention.
Mr. Feehily was elected as Chairman in 2010 and retained the post last year in a contest with Joe Taaffe.
Mr. Queenan is currently one of Sligo's delegates on the Connacht Council.
This year's Convention, which takes place in the Radisson Hotel on Tuesday, December 11th, will see quite a few changes on the County Executive as a number of members are due to step down under the five year rule.
Secretary, Padraig Duffy, has served his five year term and the nominess for this position are John Neiland, Bernadine McGauran and Gerry O'Connor, the outgoing PRO.
Jonathan Davey is stepping down as Assistant Secretary and those nominated for this role are Keith Henry and Cathal Martyn. Seamus Cronin, who has served five years as Assistant Treasurer, is nominated for the Treasurer's postion while Michael Leonard and Joe Taaffe are nominees for Assistant Treasurer.
Gerry O'Connor and Michael Leonard are stepping down as PRO and Development Officer respectively under the five year rule while outgoing Connacht Council delegate, Timmy McGrath, is not seeking re-election.
