LAST SUNDAY'S Fourball Betterball was won by Liam Mullaney & Pat Conroy 44pts (Countback), 2nd Brendan Gaffney & Jim Mooney 44pts, 3rd Adrian King & Gareth Gilmartin 43pts. Thursday nights Competition was won by Brendan Gaffney, 2nd Michael Keville, 3rd Michael Rush.
The Winter League draw has taken place with first round matches to be played next Saturday or Sunday. Please check noticeboard for full details of format, partners and opposites. There will also be a nine hole re-entry next Saturday and Sunday.
Well done to Francie Flanagan who won a category prize in the Senior Foursomes in Ballaghdereen last Thursday. The next round will be on Wed 24th October in Ballymote. Thanks to Michael Keville for arranging and sponsoring the temporary score cards while we await delivery of a new print run.
The Club heard with sadness last week of the passing of Hugh Stewart who was a past member of the club and we extend sympathy to his wife Pam and all the Stewart Family.
ON SATURDAY it was Tony Groves who took the honours in the first of the Gulf Oil sponsored events with a score of 37 points. Great to see Colm McTiernan back on the course, and playing well, to take second place with 36 points from Ray O Grady who had 34 points. On Sunday last, John Scanlon was victorious in the v-par competition, finishing with a score of 1 up. Second place was Alan Martin who finished level, with Raymond Barlow came in third place with a score of 1 down.
Next weekend will have two events on Saturday and Sunday, both of which will be sponsored by Leitrim Chrystal.
Names are now being taken in the golf shop for this years Winter League, which will be in the form of a 3 man scramble. Please put your name down as soon as possible on the entry sheet.
Although many people managed to call one of the major winners right, congratulations go to Anthony Wasylocha who was the only person to predict two of the 2012 major winners correctly. Anthony rightly told us that Bubba would win the Masters, and Rory would win the PGA, and so wins the cash prize in this competition.

Congratulations to Co. Sligo Golf club who won the Connacht Shield for the third time in their history, after beating Ballyhaunis by a score of 6 : 4 in a nail biting final played at Ballyhaunis G.C on Saturday last. Co. Sligo travelled to Ballyhaunis with a 4 : 1 lead from the first leg of the competition played at Rosses Point. Ballyhaunis fielded the same team for its home advantage leg, while Co.Sligo made three changes to their line-up. Ballyhaunis won the first and second match on the day and the momentum was in their favour when they won the fourth match on the 15th hole to level the match at four all. Mark Rooney & Shane Flaherty of Co.Sligo struck back and won their match on the 18th green to give Co.Sligo a 1 point lead with one match left on the course.
The fifth and final match between Neil Gaynor & Aidan Doyle (Co.Sligo) and K.Henry & E.Gilbride (Ballyhaunis) was level after 17 holes, and after halving the 18th the two teams played the 19th with the hopes of both clubs on their shoulders. Fortunately, Co.Sligo pairing of Gaynor & Doyle won this tense encounter and the overall match for Co.Sligo.
Team captain Gerry McManus accepted the Connacht pennant and presented it to Co.Sligo Golf club Vice Captain, Terry Brady. He congratulated Ballyhaunis on a great contest played in a sporting manner and praised the Sligo team of Hugh Arnold & Luke Armstrong, John McDermott & Ken Henry, Mark Rooney & Shane Flaherty, Michael Barrett & Kieran O'Brien, and Neil Gaynor & Aidan Doyle and the other 10 member panel who played in earlier matches ;Shane Flanagan, Ruairi O'Connor, Damien Burke, Anton Murphy, Noel McTernan, Fergal O'Flaherty, Roddy Gaynor, Michael Hannigan, Michael McNamara and Thomas Finnegan, who contributed to the wins against Strandhill, Carrick on Shannon, Boyle, Castlerea, and Tuam en route to the final. Gerry McManus also thanked his assistants Michael McNamara & Garth McManus.
Shane Underwood of Co.Sligo won The Connacht Mid Amateur Open Championship played over 36 holes at Roscommon Golf club last weekend with a 3 under par score of 141.Shane shot 5 birdies and an eagle 2 , to come first of 60 players from all of Ireland. Eddie McCormack of Galway came second with a score of 144 and Seryth Heavey of Co.Sligo came third, also with a score of 144.
Congratulations to Shane on this spectacular performance and to Seryth on his third place finish.
Diageo Sponsored Winter League.: The Winter League commences on Sunday 21st October 2012. The format is four-ball V par. One cannot play with the same partner as last year. Please contact the committee if you require a partner. The entry sheet is posted on the club notice board. The dates are: Sunday 21st Oct, Nov.4th & 18th, Dec. 2nd & 16th, Jan. 6th & 20th, Feb. 3rd & 17th. The final is scheduled for Sunday 10th March 2013.

Junior Boy's Captain Alan Gaynor will hold his Captains day on Saturday 6th October at 1pm on the Bomore course. All junior boys are invited to take part in the competition. Prizes winners of junior competitions played over the summer months should attend as prizes will be presented afterwards.

THE VARIOUS local Winter Alliances are being planned at the moment – a sure sign that the seasons are changing. The dates for the Ladies' Senior Alliance for the 2012/2013 season are on the club web-site already. Congratulations to Therese Gillen and to her playing partner, Shane Underwood, on winning the Club Match Play Mixed Foursomes recently. Their opponents in the final were Mary Conefrey and David Cunningham. Congratulations to both pairs on a hard fought encounter. Last Tuesday's competition was somewhat curtailed by poor weather conditions and we hope for better conditions in the coming week.

THE LATE Noreen Ross was valued member of both Tubbercury and Ballymote golf clubs. On the 1st anniversary of her death her husband Sean and family presented a trophy in her memory to be played for by the ladies committees of both clubs. Last Saturday Tubbercurry hosted the playing of the trophy. The ladies of both clubs were honoured to have Sean present. Eight ladies from both clubs played a four ball better ball format. As Ballymotw had only seven ladies Tubbercurry lent Mary Kennedy to them and the result rested on her excellent play.
For Tubbercurry Mary Conway and Christine won 2and 1. Brid Leonard and Bridie Feehily won 5 and 3. Brigie Clarke and Marie O'Hara lost their match by 1 hole and Mary Kennedy playing with her Ballymote Partner won by 8 holes. overall the trophy was won by Ballymote. Afterwards both teams enjoyed a meal and recounted many tales of the late Noreen playing in both clubs.

The Tubbercurry Golf Club mens & ladies Committees hosted the Ballymote Golf Club mens & ladies Committees in the annual competition on Saturday last which Ballymote shaded. Congratulations to all who played. Again special mention must go to the Course Committee who had the course in perfect condition and to Peter and Kitty King for all their hare work at the presentation afterwards.
The final of the High Boys Club is on Saturday 6th October. All players that have qualified for the final are listed on the leader board in the Club house.
Next Sunday's Competition is the Belleek Scramble. This great competition has been on the cards for years and the prizes this year are exceptional so get a team together and fill in your name on the sheet in the Clubhouse.
