SLIGO 22 - BUCCANEERS 10 DEFENDING CHAMPIONS, Sligo, maintaiend their unbeaten record in the Conncaht League when they defeated Buccaneers in an entertaining match at Hamilton Park
After an uphill start, Sligo edged in front when Leona Moran got over for a try in the right corner and this was followed shortly by another try by Hannah Scollan following great work by Amy Geraghty, Hannah Davey and Carley Leydon.
Buccs responded with a try off a scrum in the Sligo half and managed to drive their second row to the right of the uprights despite Sligo's brave attempts to hold them up. The score going into half time was 10-5.
Sligo forced a penalty early in the second half which scrumhalf, Jackie Caraway took quickly and moved the ball to Gerraghty who barged through the Buccs line and dashed for the uprights to get a try under the posts. Caraway with the Conversion, made the score 17-5.
Sligo then struck for another try when Grainne Blount deftly moved the ball to sub Ruth Goodwin who powered over for a wonderful score. Buccs managed to get through Sligo eventually, but not without a fight, with their flanker salvaging a try from a drive though the Sligo line.
Sligo held out Buccs in the dying minutes and the final score was 22-10 - a great start to Sligo's league campaign and still unbeaten in the league since their debut in October 2010.
