C has may be on trial for murder this week, but Cameron feels like he's the one being judged as he wrestles with his conscience. Almost a nervous wreck, he asks Alex to go to court for him and report back on what happens. The former farmhand is there to see Debbie give evidence, but while she does her best to blacken her aunt's name, she can't be quite so cocky when the questioning turns to the time Carl attacked her.
Jimmy is also torn between defending Chas and landing his own family in trouble as he's questioned about his brother, meaning everything is resting on Cameron when he takes the stand. Realising it's now or never, he starts to say that Chas couldn't possibly have killed Carl, but once again bottles out of confessing that he's the real murderer.
However, the stress of keeping his terrible secret proves too much, and he ends up blurting out the truth to another villager – only to then take desperate action to ensure his confidant doesn't go to the police. While Chas waits to hear the jury's verdict, is Cameron about to become a double murderer?
After spending most of the past month either down a disused mineshaft or in hospital, Katie was probably looking forward to a peaceful New Year at home. Instead though, she finds herself doubled over in pain and is rushed to hospital. The doctor reveals she has an abscess on her ovary, and following an urgent operation, informs Declan that Katie is out of danger, but there's a strong chance she will be infertile.
Declan asks if he can be the one to break the devastating news to his wife, reassuring her that he loves her no matter what. That's not quite what he tells Jai later, as he admits he'd always wanted a son to inherit his empire. Sam inadvertently lets slip to Katie just how hard Declan has taken the news, and once again she fears for the future of her marriage.
Elsewhere, Alicia thinks her Christmas wish, that her sham marriage will somehow become the real thing, is coming true when she finds a bracelet hidden in the freezer. Assuming it's David's gift to her, she comes crashing back down to reality when her husband presents her with a pen and pencil set – and she spots the jewellery gracing Priya's dainty wrist.
Moira owns up to Adam about her relationship with Cain, but her lover isn't ready to go public – until he sees her flirting with another man. Jai is resolute to see his son on Christmas Day, and Bernice schemes to take over the Woolpack.
