CASTLE DARGAN CUP: Kevin Conlon is proving himself to be a real Cup specialist, as this is now the third year in a row that he has won one of the major Cups at Castle Dargan. Following last years win in the Darren Clarke Cup, and the previous years victory in the Castle Dargan Cup, Kevin is lifting another Cup this year after winning a fantastic final played out against Collooneys Aiden McGoldrick.
Both players had been seen recently at intense training camps in the sun - Aiden in Portugal, and Kevin in Spain - and all the practise certainly paid off as the golf was of an extremely high standard. Indeed its hard not to feel sorry for Aiden, as its not often one would have scored 41 points, and had a hole in one included in the round, and still finish on the losing side. However such was the quality of the match, that Kevin still overcame the challenge, sinking some superb putts along the way, and also pitching in at one stage, before draining a monster putt on 18 to secure the victory. Aiden can be very proud of his performance, including the superb ace at the third hole. But congratulations go to Kevin, as he adds his name to this prestigious trophy once again.
Junior coaching sessions for 7 - 12 year olds take place every Saturday at 11.30am in Castle Dargan. All equipment is provided if necessary, and the cost is only €2 per child. For full details, please contact Paul Little, Junior Golf Convenor at Castle Dargan on 071 9118080.
WINTER LEAGUE: Next Sunday sees the start of this years winter league, which takes the form of a 3 ball scramble. 23 teams are so far entered, so the competition is sure to be fierce over the 4 week event. Rounds take place on the Sundays of the 4th and 18th of November, and the 2nd and 16th of December, with the best three scores counting out of these four dates.
A singles competition takes place over the Saturdays of the Winter League team event, and the weeknds in between. Teams in the scramble event are reminded that matches may only be played on the specified Sundays. Team listings and handicaps are now posted in the golf shop, although there are still places available for any late entries before next Sunday. Teams will play off 1/7th of the combined handicaps, and at least one tee shot must be used by each player during each round. Further details will be available on Sunday next.
