Merville and Benbulben made light of the difficult conditions to produce a four goal thriller in the Sligo/Leitrim boys u.15 League at rain-lashed Merville on Saturday morning.

Both sides adopted a positive approacha and there were plenty of chances at both ends.

After a brisk opening, it was Mervilled who edged in front in the 15th minute when Shane Hargadon got through for a well-worked goal.

However, it didn't take long for the North Sligo boys to hit back as James Warnock had them on level terms just five minutes later.

This was just the boost Benbulben needed and they took control of the game in the closing stages of the half.

Their endeavour was rewarded when Luke Towie made it 2-1 shortly before the interval, firing home after good work by Owen Hill had created the opening. Benbulben almost moved further ahead early in the second half when John Lenhihan's cross caused panic in the heart of the Merville defence.

The home side quickly regained their composure, however.

They pressed forward with renewed urgency in search of an equaliser and earned a share of the spoils with Dylan Martin made it 2-2 in the 62nd minute.
