SLIGO UNDER-17 Blacks won their third game of the Under-17 B North League with a 17-10 victory over a determined Ballyhaunis side.
Conditions made handling of the ball an issue for both sides, with the pitch something of a mud bowl due to overnight rain and a seniors' game beforehand.
Sligo gradually began to dominate the scrums and line-outs, but they couldn't convert their controlling force into points.
Ballyhaunis eventually began to tire and couldn't stop the endless phases coming from Sligo.
Eventually Number 8 Luke Morrison scored a try following an excellent maul.
Out-half Jack Cox added another before the break, making the conversion from a difficult angle.
With minutes remaining to the half-time whistle, Ballyhaunis found themselves in the Sligo half and they got a scrum on the 10 meter line.
Ballyhaunis showed they could be dangerous with ball in hand, but the Sligo defence held firm with Liam McElhinney making some big tackles.
Some clever kicking by out-half Hadi Mousa pinned Ballyhaunis back on the resumption. A Sligo maul drove 20 meters before McElhinney grounded.
Both sides freshened things up in the latter stages. Some impressive counter attacking caught Sligo napping and after failing to pay attention in a quick lineout and a try followed.
Ballyhaunis then got another try to make it 17-10 with five minutes left.
Sligo put on the pressure again, but the home side didn't waver.
