Thomas to dive in at Junior Championships

Thomas Maher who has been chosen to swim for Team Ireland in the IWAS World Junior games in England in August.

Fourteen-year-old Sligo swimmer, Thomas Maher, will represent Ireland at the IWAS Junior World championships later this year.

Thomas, who was born with mild Cerebral Palsy which affects him down his right hand side, has been selected for the Championships which will take place in Stoke Mandeville in England from August 2nd to 8th.

A member of the Irish Junior Paralympic squad since 2009, Thomas trains monthly in the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin, under Dave Malone, Head of Paralympic Swimming.

This will be Thomas' third time to represent Ireland.

He swam in the UK Schools Games in 2010 and in the National Youth and Disability Championships in Sheffield in 2012 where he brought home a silver and bronze medal.

Thomas is ranked 26 in the World under the IPC Swimming Rankings.

A second year student at Summerhill College, he lives with his parents, Noel and Kate, and twin brothers, Patrick and Anthony.
