Lough Gill swim raises €23k
CIVIC RECEPTION FOR FUNDRAISERS
THE ORGANISERS of the Lough Gill Swim were accorded a Civic Reception at the Town Hall on Friday last by Mayor David Cawley. The Mayor commended the swimmers, who covered a distance of 10km from Parkes Castle to Doorly Park in tough conditons on august 11th.
A check of €23,555 was handed over to Northwest Hospice Sligo raised by the swimmers through sponsorship cards and online. In attendance were members of Sligo Civil Defence and Sligo Kayak club, both instrumental in the safe running of the event.
Special praise was given to swimmer Joe Waters, the most successful fundraiser, contributing almost €4,000 to the total. The committee thank all sponsors and look forward to the swim again in 2013 and will soon be announcing some exciting news.
