Ladies team Prize: Edel McDermott(19), Julie Harrison(17), Martina sherlock (25), Theresa Gillen (29)

Longest Drive (5th Hole): Rory O'Connor; Nearest the Pin (16th) John Robinson

Given the time of year we had a very good day on Saturday for the Fred Daly event and the 4 man scramble format was a big hit with all the players. We had a total of 39 teams playing on the day which was a great result for the fundraiser and the Captain Terry Brady thanked all the club members who generously supported the event including the team from Tubber.

The winners, with the Flanagan brothers Sean And Kevin David Brady and Paddy Bird set t a good pace from the start with a birdie at the 1st, eagle at the 3rd, birdie at 4th and 8th before turning for home. However, it was into the wind that this team showed its class with birdies at 14 and 15 and then Paddy Bird holing a 16 footer on 16 for birdie which in the end got them home to a great win. Just as well, as the Brady/O'Connor bunch also shot 36 points. They started on fire with 3 straight birdies and an eagle at the 5th - 5 under after 5. However, despite birdies at 8, 14 and a super birdie on 17 they still lost out on a countback for first place.

Also putting in a sterling performance of 36pts were Fred Perry, Brendan Flanagan, Joe Callaghan and Padraig McMunn. Making their mark with a succession of birdies at the start they couldn't mantain the sizzle on the way home and had to settle for 3rd spot. In 4th spot with a not too shabby 35pts were Hugh Arnold, Karl Demmel, Eamonn McDonagh and Kieran O'Brien. They started with a bang with Kieran O'Brien holing for a 2 on the first hole but could only add 4 more birdies to their opening eagle and had to settle for 4th spot. Worthy of mention was Rory O'Connor who poped it nicely well beyond the hump on the 5th to win the longest drive and John Robinson who was nearest the pin on 16th and it was playing long. Karl Demmel made it a very good day in having the winning ticket in the raffle for a very, very nice golf bag donated by Jim and Maggie Robinson.

Winter League: Section A: Leo McNally and John Martyn won yet again and have a maximum 24 points. This pair really and will be one of the favourites in the final. Noel Tivnan and Gerry Kilbride edged ahead of Leo Logan and John O'Donohue for the second spot. The final spot has two pairs two points behind so its still all to play for.

Section B: Fintan Monaghan and Kevin Conlon dropped points but have secured a final spot.. After play, no fewer than six groups still have a chance to qualify so this group is far from over. It will definitely go to the final Sunday before we get an outcome.

Section C: Dessie Timbs and Brendan Deignan dropped points t leaving Michael Kivlehan and Michael Keane along with Michael and Paul Cox leading with 21 points. Now 4 more groups are still battling it out for the remaining places. Another group that will be decided on the last day.

Section D: Frank and Ronnie Conlon were beaten and with Eddie and Pauric Watters winning and having a rest week next week they have qualified for the final. It looks like this group is pretty much sorted however the Gerrity's may have a say in the final shake up.

Section E: Jimmy Kiernan and Stephen English have a maximum 24 points and really have blown away the opposition. After this week's results no fewer than 5 groups have a chance to qualify.

Section F: Section F leaders Michael Cox and Aidan Heffernan halved their match. Andy Legget and Oliver Durcan, Martin Cunningham and Frank Gannon join Tommy and Declan Basquille in the final as these four groups cannot be caught. The only thing to decide is their finishing position.

The last round is next Sunday February 17th.
