Four members of Collooney Kickboxing club have qualified for the World Championships in Turkey later this year.
Dessie Leonard, Aine Conlon-Oates, Jarlath O'Connor and Alex Block will all represent Ireland on the world stage following outstanding performances at a qualification tournament in Dublin.
Participating in the second elimination series, the Collooney fighters scooped a magnificent haul of five gold medals, thereby earning places on the national squad for Turkey.
Dessie Leonard (Black Belt) fought both semi and continuous in a weight limit of -63kgs, fighting off six opponents to win two gold medals.
Aine Conlon-Oates (2nd Dan Black Belt) made a return to the ring after a fifteen years absence and showed that she had lost none of her class.
She brought home two gold medals in the veterans section with a weight limit of -55kgs in the semi and continuous styles.
Alex Block, weight limit -60kgs, earned her place on the Irish team by beating off four opponents to win gold in the continuous category.
Another club member, Jarlath O'Connor, faces a fight-off for a place on the Irish team.
All fighters are coached by Des Leonard.
The Collooney club teaches kickboxing every Monday and Friday for beginners, intermediates and adults. Cardio kickboxing classes run every Wednesday.
The club has won several awards over the years, including four World championships, five European Championships and numerous national titles.
