THE FOURTH and final event in the first ever Sligo Fit 4 Life 5K Wome's Series took place in Tubbercurry on Tuesday evening with an impressive 302 ladies involved in the overall series.

Despite the rain 159 female runners and walkers completed the Tubbercurry 5K and on crossing the finishing line a great sense of achievement was experienced by all and in particular the many women who were new to the sport of running and who had completed their first 5K event series. South Sligo Athletic Club hosted the event and had a large team of volunteers involved in marshalling and post event refreshments. Support from the Gardai and the Civil Defence was on hand to ensure the safe running of the 5K.

Once again runners, joggers and walkers of all fitness levels took part with Aisling Van Rensburg of North Sligo the overall winner.

The series of 5K events was co-ordinated by Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership under the Irish Sports Council Women in Sport programme. At the awards ceremony Sports Co-ordinator Deirdre Lavin acknowledged the outstanding support from the four Athletic Clubs who each hosted an event including Sligo AC, North Sligo AC, Tireragh Ac and South Sligo Ac. In addition, she acknowledged the great effort and enthusiasm of the many runners and walkers and the support of the event sponsor Sligo Credit Union.
