Great turnout for women's Try-a-tri
THERE WAS a great turn out for Sligo's first ever women's Try-aTri event at Sligo Sports Complex
First home was Carmel Mullaney with Yvette Doyle in second place. Third was Niamh Kavanagh. Mother and daughter team of Carmel and Orla Nicholson successfully completed the end.. Cathy Mc Carthy, who had completed the Dublin Marathon, also took part. Despite fighting through the swim and being last out fo the pool, she still managed to go on and finish with a very fast cycle and run to be in the top 15.
Special thanks were extended to the Try a Tri Committee and Mentors, Lynsey Dunne, Club Secretary, Pauric Deery Chairperson of Sligo Triathlon Club, Coaches Ronan Mc Namara, Colm Casey, Shane O Doherty, Sheila Ryan, all the marshals and Ashley Henry for doing the timing
Jason Mc Morrow who was on hand to provide massage to the women as they finished. The sponsors were Voya, Cara Pharmacy (who donated a make up bag and make up brush bag and perfume for each competitor), Mc Hughs, Sligo Cryospa. The event was funded by the Sligo Sports and Recreation Partnership. The aim of the initiative is to introduce /reintroduce women into sport. The Try-a-Tri involved ten lengths swim of the pool, a 10 km cycle a 4km run.
