The Coola Post Primary team which won the Sligo School’s League final in 2012. The team came back a year later to win the title for the fifth time.

THIS year for the fifth year in a row, our Senior Boys triumphed in the Sligo School's League final against Enniscrone beating them by a score of 3-10 to 2-9 in Tourlestrane.

Our captain, James Mackey, played a massive role for the team's success this year.

There was a panel of 30 players for this season and we had a strong and well organised side.

I interviewed James Mackey to get his reflection on our memorable year.

He said: "The team did very well to win the five in a row this year.

"For most of the starting team this year it was their first year playing at Senior level.

"There are many young players who still play at U-16 Club level.

"We achieved a great victory on the way to the final beating Easkey.

"That day we put 3-17 on the board, scoring 3-16 from play.

"I can see tremendous potential with Coola progressing into Connacht finals in the coming years as our Junior team is very impressive.

"These young players can only improve.

"All in all it was a fantastic year for the Senior squad winning the Sligo VEC competition five times on the trot."

Our enthusiastic managers for the year were Mr. Murphy and Liam Og Gormley.

Our Junior boys are now in the semi-final of the Connacht Championship after beating Dunmore in the quarter final after an impressive performance over the Galway side.
