Glory days recalled at Craobh Rua reunion
They travelled from all over Ireland
They even flew in from as far away as Canada to be part of a memorable reunion of gaelic footballers who had not seen each other for over fifty years.
They shook hands and hugged one another and at times became emotional as they recalled some of their past glories at a reunion function in the Sligo Park Hotel.
They were part of a club named Craobh Rua, a historical Sligo GAA Club, which was the very first to win the Owen B Hunt Cup 3 years in a row: 1952, 1953 and 1954.
They also reached the County final in 1963.
Craobh Rua was a well-renowned Gaelic football club in Sligo throughout the fifties and sixties. Anyone who played for Craobh Rua was part of a vibrant and energetic club whose members wore the jersey with pride.
The former footballers chatted into the early hours recalling and replaying matches of bygone days. Old acquaintances were renewed with the promise of staying in touch.
It was a night to remember and will be cherished by all for many a day to come.
