A heavy loss for Sligo ladies against Down

SLIGO ladies suffered a heavy defeat to Down at the IT grounds on Sunday.
Sligo unfortunately got off to a very slow start and Karen Maloney pointed their first score from play after 12 minutes
During this time Down had stormed ahead with 2 goals and 1 point . The second goal was from a penalty when to add to Sligo's demise Jacqui Mulligan was sin-binned to the sideline for 10 mins.
Down blasted another goal putting a secure gap between the two teams.
They also had a player sent to the line for ten minutes for two fouls on Tracy O'Hara.
Sligo were always defending and as Muligan returned to the field with one player up Sligo pushed on to try and get that all important goal before the half time whistle.
The experienced Bernice Byrne at mid field took a pass from Ciara Doyle and as she battled her way through the defence she secured that all important goal to narrow the gap for Sligo.
The half time score was Sligo 1-3 to Down 3-4.
Down once again dominated in the second-half and a lapse in concentration from Sligo clearing the ball resulted is another goal for Down. This came too early in the second half as Sligo failed to take control of the game. Sligo made several substitutions through-out the half.
It was a very defensive half with both teams fighting to hold position but Down had the edge.
