A HAT-trick of goals from Eoin Carroll within ten minutes of the second half helped Coola Vocational school through to the next round of the Connacht Colleges Senior C Championship in Milltown.

In a game played in harsh conditions both teams produced some excellent passages of play and Coola in particular fought tooth and nail for every possession.

Coola opened the scoring with a free from Daniel Willis in the opening few minutes and in a half which was nip and tuck right throughout.

Willis added two more scores and one from Jodie O'Reilly kept Coola noses in front at halftime with the score 0-4 to 0-3 in favour of the Sligo School.

The second half started with two points for Oranmore and with the Galway side playing with the aid of a nice breeze things looked ominous for Coola.

But the Coola lads upped the gears and began to attack at everything in front of them.

James Mackie and Kyle Carty began to carve open the Oranmore defence and a switch of Eoin Carroll into full-forward reaped massive dividends for the East Sligo School as Carroll first of all got a fist onto a cross from Killian Harte.

Moments later, Carroll was put through for his second which he calmly slotted in along the ground.

Oranmore hit back for a period with a string of attacks.

However, a vigilant Coola defence cut every attack out and then broke upfield for Carroll once again to hit the back of the net with a 20 yard pile driver. This put Coola 3-4 to 0-5 up. Great credit to Oranmore though and they were not finished yet and fought back for a well worked goal and point.

Coola battoned down the hatches though and ended 3-4 to 1-6 winners.
