Thanks to Sligo's anglers

For the last six years my partner Angela and I and some friends have been travelling to Sligo every October to partake in the Joe McCaffrey Memorial Cup pike competition on Lough Gill.
The reason for this letter is to thank the angling community who, from the very first day we arrived in Sligo six years ago, welcomed us in and made us feel as if we had been there all our lives.
Each year since the friendships have grown.
In fact it's not just the anglers who welcomed us in but the entire Sligo community-from the pubs, restaurants and shops where the friendliness and hospitality is absolutely second to none.
The value to be had in the hotels is excellent.
This year fifteen of us stayed in the Sligo Park Hotel and would highly recommend it for the value, comfort and great facilities available.
Given everything that Sligo has to offer it would probably be an idea for Failte Ireland along with Inland Fisheries Ireland to develop angling tourism in the area.
While it might not create employment it would certainly be a huge help in maintaining employment in your great town.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the McCaffrey family, in particular Eileen, Noel, Maurice, Ann and Martin, who put a lot of time and effort into organising this great competition, and to the staff and management of the Blue Lagoon Bar, where the presentation of prizes is held.
Thanks again to everybody in Sligo for your friendliness and hospitality and see you all next year. Eamon Cunningham Hillquarter Coosan Athlone
