AS a member of Collooney Tidy Towns Committee I have just attended our first meeting of the New Year.

We are all feeling a sense of frustration at the litter problem in our area. We are an active group and feel sometimes that it's an uphill battle.

We met last Saturday morning to clean the roadside between Collooney and Ballisodare.

The County Council have been informed on numerous occasions about the volume of litter that has steadily grown over the past few months.

This eyesore at the entrance to these beautiful woods that children, adults and tourists frequent is mind-boggling in 2013.

Deirdre McDermott.
