YOU COULD feel the tension in the air as two couples battled it out last Sunday in a Mr and Mrs style question round to land them a whopping prize – their dream wedding at the Radisson Hotel in Sligo. Ten couples had started out in the unique Wedding Olympics, and now it was down to the final pair as Dublin faced Leitrim in the decider.
It was the Dublin based couple, Delia Teahan and Neil O'donnell who managed to score four questions right, even remembering the first film they saw together in the cinema, no mean feat for the couple, who have been together three and a half years.
Love clearly blossomed for the young pair when they first met as Boston native, Delia moved across the Atlantic to be with Neil in Dublin, and the young bride-to-be said that she 'couldn't wait' until the big day next November.
"It's absolutely fantastic; the competition was so tense today. I am really looking forward to bringing my relatives from Boston to see Sligo as the Northwest is really one of our favourite places," Delia said. Neil commented that the competition was nerve wreaking and the singing round in particular proved difficult. "You really couldn't tell who was going to win, it was tough! I still can't believe it, to win the wedding is amazing."
The runners up from Co. Leitrim were James Gill and Jenny Mckiernan.
Earlier rounds involved ten couples competing in a range of challenges, including going against the clock dressing their partner in an EJ'S wedding suit, singing alongside band Deja Groove and telling the judges why they deserved to win. Delia and Neil, who brought a large group of supporters, can now start planning ahead of their big day on November 17th next.
