SLIGO'S 110 polling stations will open for the first time on a Saturday in many year's in the Children's Referendum. Voting takes place from 9am to 10pm on November 11.
Returning officer for Sligo-North Leitrim Padraic O'Grady said: "The idea behind the Saturday is to allow students be at home to vote and not to disturb pupils in schools." There are 30 polling stations in North Leitrim. At the close of the poll, the ballot boxes will be brought to the count centre at The Clarion Hotel. The counting of votes will begin at 9am on Sunday. A result is expected at lunchtime or in the early afternoon.
The result will be forwarded to the National Returning Officer in Dublin Castle for the formal announcement of the overall outcome.
