Two men questioned over serious assault at Avondale

Two men who were questioned by gardai about a serious assault in Avondale in Sligo last Tuesday night have been released without charge.

Meanwhile, gardai are waiting to interview the 24-year-old man who sustained severe facial injuries in the attack.

His injuries are not life-threatening.

At about 3:30am, gardai were called to a disturbance in a house in Avondale.

The injured man, a local in his mid-20s, was taken by ambulance to Sligo Regional Hospital, where he was detained for treatment.

The two men, in their early 20s, were arrested at the scene and taken to Sligo Garda Station.

They were held for a time under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardai examined the scene in Avondale and are currently waiting to take a statement from the injured man before sending a file to the DPP.

They have also appealed for witnesses.
