A MEETING took place between about 40 members of the Indian community in Sligo and representatives of An Garda Siochana.
It followed a number of recent break-ins and burglaries at the homes of Indian people living in the area.
At the meeting, held in the Radisson Hotel, gardai spoke on crime prevention.
Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Jim Fox said: "The whole message was to use safe deposit boxes and not keep valuables in the home.
"People were also encouraged to report any suspicious activities they see."
Inspector Donal Sweeney and Immigration Officer Detective Garda Michael Carr also spoke.
