FESTIVALS in Sligo received welcome news that they are to get more than €30,000 in funding for next year.
In total, ten festivals throughout the area are included in the announcement, from Tourism Minister, Michael Ring.
Close to 200 festivals in Ireland will get funding under the Festival Regional Programme, supported by Fáilte Ireland.
The breakdown of Sligo's festivals are as follows: Adventure Sligo (€3,000), Glasgow Celtic 125th Anniversary (€4,000), Cos Cos Festival (€3,000), So Sligo (€3,000), An Post Tour (€4,000), Sligo Summer Festival (€3,000), Sea Shanty Festival (€4,000), International Choral Festival (€5,000), Sligo Baroque (€2,000) and the Spanish Armada Fringe Festival (€3,000).
Willie Murphy, organiser of the Rosses Point Sea Shanty Festival said: "We are absolutely delighted with this news.
"Our festival is an international event, now in its 4th year, which runs in conjunction with the RNLI.
"Without the great support, we wouldn't be able to host this event."
Festivals in Leitrim (€22,500) and Donegal (€50,000) also received funding in the announcement.
Smaller events aiming to receive funding for next year's Sligo Gathering have until Friday, November 30th, to submit their application. Details can be found on www.sligococo.ie
