Ballymote playground

Ballymote's town playground is to be revamped.

A major fundraising initiative has begun to fund the project.

The playground in the town park was first opened in 2004.

It is now in need of a facelift.

Ballymote Enterprise is organising the work.

A spokesperson said: "Very little was ever done since the playground opened.

"A couple of swings were replaced, but it now needs a complete clean-up and revamp."

A cake sale on Easter Sunday is the first of a number of fundraising ventures.

The spokesperson said: "We'll need new equipment and paint.

"The local national school, Scoil Mhuire gan Smál is coming on board with us.

"They are going to organise some events after the Easter holidays."

The Ballymote playground is widely used by the local community.

The Enterprise representative said: "Hopefully, people will help us out.

"The town part and playground are important features.

"We want to have them looking their best."
