Employees across the sports chain's 56 stores launched a strong campaign to keep their jobs.

Staff at the company's Sligo store, in the Johnston Court shopping centre, were also involved.

There are 21 people employed in this outlet.

Sarah Porter said that the workers were thrilled with the news.

She said: "We are obviously delighted.

"It puts ease on everyone involved to have job security.

"We put a lot of effort into the campaign and it clearly worked.

"There was a lot of support on Facebook and Twitter for it, which was nice to see.

"It is good that the hard work has paid off and that they listened to us."

It is understood that Patrick Rowland, Elverys' managing director, beat off competition from five bidders for control of the retail chain.
