New chamber president ready for Sligo challenge
Sligo hasn't reached its potential yet according to new Chamber President Trevor McDaid.
As he took office on Friday last, Mr. McDaid said he intended to continue to promote Sligo as an excellent investment and tourist location.
The official handover ceremony took place in The Clarion Hotel on Friday.
County Tyrone native Mr. McDaid, a director of Hamilton Young Architects, said he was taking up office at a very exciting and promising time for Sligo Chamber.
He said: "Sligo is a really great city, one which, thanks in no small part to the efforts of this chamber, has not been completely destroyed by inappropriate development, like so many others around the country."
Mr. McDaid said he intended to develop a new economic vision for Sligo.
He would do this by strengthening the links between government agencies, the local councils, voluntary bodies and the enterprise and development agencies.
He would also continue to develop links with Sligo's diaspora through the Sligo Business Network in London, headed up by Andy Rogers. The new president said Sligo needed to be single minded; determined and focused, as a city, a region and as an economy.
