National council role for Amanda

Sligo woman Amanda McCloat has been appointed to the newly created Healthy Ireland Council by Minister for Health James Reilly.

Amanda, originally from Dromore West, is Head of the Home Economics at St Angela's College, Sligo.

Dr Anne Taheny, President of St. Angela's College extended her congratulations to Ms McCloat.

She said: "This is a significant appointment recognising the importance of Home Economics as a discipline in supporting education on health and well-being of individuals, families and communities".

The national council, which has 37 members, is chaired by former Irish rugby international Keith Wood, with President Michael D Higgins as its patron.
