'LINCOLN', starring Daniel Day Lewis, had a budget of $65 million and is set to be the major hit of the year.
The two and a half hour film, already termed an epic, is directed and produced by Steven Spielberg.
The film also stars Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln, the President's wife.
It is based on the biography of Lincoln, 'Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln'.
It covers the final four months of Lincoln's life, focusing on the President's efforts in January 1865 to have the 13th amendment to the US Constitution to abolish slavery passed by the House of Representatives. Day-Lewis' performance has already been hailed as an Oscar-winning one and on Sunday he won a Golden Globe.
The 55-year-old 'My Left Foot' actor, who lives in County Wicklow, is said not to have broken character once during three months of filming, getting everyone to address him as Mr. President.
