The landmark Kelly's Hotel in Strandhill which will be redeveloped as a family home.

A former landmark hotel and pub in Strandhill is to be turned into a house.

Kelly's Bar at the junction of Top Road and Buenos Aires Drive in the village hasn't traded in the past couple of years.

It was formerly known as the Sancta Maria Hotel and was one of the leading hostelries in Strandhill from the 1950s onwards.

It was operated from the late 1960s for a number of years by the late Nace O'Dowd one of Sligo's leading GAA players.

The premises had fallen into disrepair in recent times and was recently bought by Jonathan Hill and his wife, Triona O'Dowd Hill.

The latter is a sister of Hollywood actor Chris O'Dowd who is a native of Boyle.

A planning permission notice to develop the building as house has been posted on the premises.

The couple are seeking permission to turn the former hotel into a dwelling house.

The work will consist of the demolition of all of the existing extensions to the rear of the original building and the construction of a new two storey

residential extension.

There are also plans to construct a new footpath, boundary walls and fencing.
