Hargadon's gets taste of the big time

IN A restaurant, you just never know who you are serving.
That's something the staff in Hargadon's pub in Sligo now know very well indeed.
Twice this year they have come up trumps with some very discerning customers.
Those who came in for food were from no less that the Michelin Eating Out in Pubs Guide, arguably the world's top reference point for good food places.
And they were obviously pleased by their experiences.
So much so that the O'Connell Street pub has been selected as one of 30 Irish pubs to be listed in the latest Michelin Eating Out In Pubs Guide 2013, just published.
Hargadon's General Manager Joe Grogan was "delighted" by the news.
He said: "Michelin is the No. 1 guide in the world. It's very prestigious."
He explained that the Michelin judges visited the pub, unannounced, on two occasions this year.
"They tell you when they are going," he said.
Last year was the first time Hargadon's was included in the Guide, so it's selection again this year proves its consistency in providing satisfying quality, service and its distinctive ambience. "It's very important for us. "It keeps us apart from other places and keeps you in people's mind for serving good food," Mr. Grogan said.
Overall, this year's Michelin Eating Out In Pubs Guide recommends more than 550 pubs, 81 of which are new entries.
