Gardai raided a house in the Forthill area of the town.

GARDAI and Customs have foiled a bid to flood Sligo with a deadly new drug that's sweeping the country.

Undercover officers from the drug squad seized Methylethcathinone worth almost €9000 at a house in the Forthill area of the town.

The drugs, also known as as the 'poor man's cocaine' had been sent by post from China.

The popular party drug used to be available in head shops and can be bought for as little as €2.50 a deal.

Two men in their 20s were arrested in the Forthill area following the seizure.

Both men, who were known to Gardai, were subsequently released with a file being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
