Design crest for a 'canon'

HOPES THAT the former Summerhill College student Fr. Edward J. Flanagan may be canonised continue.

Those behind the cause have announced a primary schools competition to design a crest in his memory.

Fr. Flanagan started at Summerhill College in 1900.

He graduated four laters year with honours before sailing for the United States.

Fr. Flanagan opened Boys Town, a house for homeless and abandoned boys in December 1917.

The competition is open to 5th and 6th class pupils throughout the Diocese of Elphin and runs from November 5th to December 7th.
