Even Paul the Octopus couldn't predict the German hammering of host's Brazil in the World Cup semi-finals.

And what a devastating blow it was to Luiz Felipe Scolari's men, seven goals to one.

Brazil fans living in Sligo were utterly shocked after their team were beaten by a much stronger, clinical and catastrophic German side.

Tatiana Sakagami, a student in IT Sligo, described it as being 'hard to talk about'.

She said: "I watched the game at home with some friends.

"It was devastating. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

"Especially after the first goal, we just seemed to be lost.

"They tried to come back in the second half but it was too late," the Sao Paulo native added.

She admitted that things went wrong from the beginning.

"We certainly missed captain Thiago Silva in defence.

"Neymar too.

"I think it couldn't be any worse."

Tatiana had not spoken to her family back home in Brazil following the defeat.

"Being the host nation too certainly meant more to us.

"I cannot decide who I want to see win the World Cup now," the clearly disappointed fan said.
