ocal butcher shop Clarke's of Grattan Street, Sligo has noticed a sizeable increase in business over the week-end.

Keith Clarke says the spike in sales of their beef burgers and mince for use as homemade burgers was most welcome.

"It has proven to be a badly needed boost.

"Since Friday last there has been many new customers coming through the doors buying our beef.

"All our beef is traceable with most coming from animals reared on our own farms in Rosses Point," he said.

He expects business to continue on the up as the horse meat saga drags on.

Clarkes is one of Sligo's longest established butcher shops, having opened on December 8th 1956 by the late Willie Clarke.
