THE MUCH maligned Sligo to Enniskillen road has received an allocation of €1.9 million that will see some of the route's most dangerous bends being taken out.
Work is expected to get underway before Christmas on the upgrading and alignment works at Cornacloy.
A company has already been chosen to carry out the work following a tendering process.
Deputy Tony McLoughlin said he was delighted that funding had been allocated for a road which was a vital link to Enniskillen and Belfast for those living and working in counties Sligo and Leitrim.
Fine Gael Senator Michael Comiskey said: "The N16 carries a large volume of traffic and these works will increase the safety of those road users."
